Falls especially scenic in autumn.Potawatomi and Gorge WaterfallsThe Ottawa National Forest is nearly 1 million acres of protected land and is home to the Potawatomi and Gorge Waterfalls. They’re located very close to each other just off the Black River National Forest Scenic Byway.From a loop-paved parking lot are short, well-marked hiking trails that lead to a series of stairways and observation platforms. While some parts of the trails are easy, other parts are more difficult. Potawatomi Falls has a 30-foot drop and 130-foot width, while Gorge Falls has a 24-foot drop and 29-foot width.Bond FallsPart of the Ontonagon River in Ottawa National Forest, Bond Falls is a scenic site with water flowing over a thick belt of fractured rock and separating into several small cascades. The waterfall, which is one of the most popular in the Upper Peninsula, drops a total of 50 feet. A trail leads from the Scenic Overlook Dr. parking lot to the waterfall and follows part of the river. There’s an accessible boardwalk with a handful of observation locations, as well as picnic tables in the area.Agate FallsAlso located on the Ontonagon River in Ottawa National Forest, Agate Falls is considered one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Michigan, especially during the fall. You’ll find it off M-28 by following the trail from the Agate Falls Scenic Site parking lot. Seeing the water cascade over terraced sandstone from nearly 40 feet high is absolutely magnificent.Bathtub FallsNestled deep within Porcupine Mountains State Park, Bathtub Falls is a hidden gem that forms the last drop of Shining Cloud Falls in the park. Nature lovers will be amazed by the magnificent views and geologists will love seeing water flow over the intricate formations.Visitors can follow a trail along the Big Carp River to see the crown jewel, Bathtub Falls.O-kun-de-kun FallsThe O-kun-de-kun Falls, named for an Ojibway chief, is tucked into the wilds of Ontanagon County, but as one of the few plunge falls around Lake Superior — and with a height of 25 feet — it’s worth a look. Those who do reach the roof of Africa – a rewarding one. 6. Ngorongoro Crater This is a giant, 25km-wide bowlful of 30,000 animals – including massive bull elephants, elusive leopard and black rhino. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the easiest place to see the Big Five year-round – hence the high number of vehicles. The crater’s Olduvai Gorge is home to some of the world’s oldest human remains – including a 1.75 million year old skull – which has shaped our understanding of evolution. 7. Ruaha National Park This remote park is for the truly intrepid traveller. Barely a handful of visitors make it here – but the rewards are plentiful: the Great Ruaha River bursting its banks following the rains, and shrinking down to wildlife-filled pools in the dry season, attracting fierce predators from lions to hyenas. Ruaha is bordered by several game reserves, making it a vast wilderness able to support huge herds of elephants. 8. Saadani National Park Tanzania’s only coastal national park, Saadani is also one of its newest – resulting in a heartwarming increase in wildlife. Conservation projects focus on elephants as well as green turtles – the projects are lovely places to visit and learn, especially for families. The coastal Zaraninge Rainforest shelters a huge diversity of species. Coconut palm-dotted ishing villages date back centuries, to when the coast was visited by Arab traders. 9. 2025-04-08Hi friends, and welcome to my Spring 2024 live update on what Yosemite National Park is currently looking like. The waterfalls are at their peak with roaring displays, Spring wildflowers are popping up all over the park in vibrant hues, and wildlife is abundant, providing visitors an opportunity to see deer, bears, coyotes, and all kinds of bird species. I spent the last several days in Yosemite celebrating National Park Week and partnering with Visit Yosemite | Madera County, so join me below as we take a look at the current conditions you can expect to see on your upcoming Spring adventure road trip. Yosemite Falls seen from Sentinel Meadow in Spring 2024 Yosemite WaterfallsCurrently the waterfalls in Yosemite are flowing with incredible force. Even though we didn’t get near the record breaking levels of precipitation that California received in 2023, the waterfalls in the park seem to be raging at a similar thundering force as they did last year...and from what I hear they will continue to increase in flow over the next few weeks. Here are all the waterfalls I saw this last week during my road trip through the park and what they’re currently looking like. Grouse Creek Falls in Yosemite National Park Grouse Creek FallsJust after passing through the Arch Rock Entrance along Highway 140, you might notice a wide cascading waterfall across the Merced Gorge if you park at this pullout. It’s easy to miss because of tree coverage and its location is a ways back (plus most visitors are so mesmerized by driving through the granite arch entrance and eager to get into the valley). The falls drop a total of almost 500 ft, but only a fraction of that is visible from this vantage point. Regardless, I’ve never seen it flowing this intensely, so it was a great start to our Spring 2024 road trip into Yosemite. Wildcat Falls in Yosemite National Park Wildcat Falls in Spring 2024 Wildcat FallsAnother waterfall that is often missed by visitors entering the park, Wildcat Falls is also flowing beautifully right now in the Merced Gorge about 3 miles east of the Yosemite Arch Rock Entrance. Comprised of seven thin drops that rush down over 700 ft, you can a couple of main teirs from the highway where the trees open up momentarily. However, I’d recommend parking at this pullout and taking the short 1/4 mile path to see the falls crash down onto several large stair-stepped boulders at the base. Wildcat Falls isn’t quite at as heavy as last year’s record-breaking Spring, but it’s still flowing wonderfully right now.For more details on this visiting this waterfall, check out my full Wildcat Falls & Cascades blog post.
