Witchers are known for their grace in combat, taking on multiple foes at once with a sense of precision that can't be matched. Besides their mutations, preparation and knowledge are the key factors in a Witcher's success in combat. In The Witcher 3, players have multiple ways of turning fights to their favor. Potions, bombs, and oils can all be crafted to make certain tasks easier. Oils, in particular, can be incredibly strong as they provide a multiplicative damage increase that stacks with any other damage bonus you have. Here are the 10 best oils you can use in The Witcher 3 and their crafting costs. Updated by Madison Lennon on March 27, 2020: It has been a little while now since The Witcher television show released but the franchise remains as popular as ever. Many people are even experiencing the games for the first time. We thought now would be a perfect time to update it and fill you in on the many oils available to you, so get crafting! 15 Superior Vampire Oil The vampires in the Witcher games are seriously no joke. There are a number of different types of vampires and all of them are monumentally deadly. You'll discover quickly that they can quickly become dangerous adversaries if you're not adequately prepared. This becomes even more true once you reach the Blood and Wine DLC and have to face-off against Detlaff. You'll want to make superior vampire oil if you can because it strongly increases your attack power toward vampires and will better prepare you against the number of creatures in the game. 14 Superior Relict Oil Relicts are some of the monstrous and horrifying beasts in the games. The chort, is a good example of a terrifying relict. It is part of a dangerous contract where you have to sense the behemoth by the sounds it makes while walking around. The crones are also relicts. The leshenn is another example of a relict. They tend to be challenging beasts and often they're very intelligent, making them challenging adversaries. Cursed Oil Cursed enemies are rather uncommon in The Witcher 3, mainly composed of Werewolves and Botchlings. Despite their rarity, they make up for it in their lethality. Because Werewolves can get rather terrifying on higher difficulties and especially on NG+, the superior variant is recommended as it grants a massive 50% damage increase to cursed enemies. To craft it, players need an Enhanced Cursed Oil, Alchemy Paste, Ekimmara Hide, Cave Troll Liver, Wolfsbane, Mistletoe, and Rubedo. It lasts for 60 attacks, which is more than enough to take down the toughest of cursed enemies in the game. 8 Superior Elementa Oil Elementa enemies are rather rare in The Witcher 3, consisting of Golems, Gargoyles, and certain bosses. These enemies are rather tough to beat, which is why superior oils are the best against them. To craft a Superior Elementa Oil, you will need an Enhanced Elementa Oil, Alchemy Paste, Nostrix, Essence of Wraith, Allspice, Honeysuckle, and Albedo. Once crafted, this oil will grant a massive 50% damage increase against these enemies for 60 attacks, making bosses like The Apiarian Phantom a complete joke. Weaker enemies like the Hound of the Wild Hunt become a breeze to kill as well, even on the hardest difficulty. 7 Enhanced Hybrid Oil Hybrids are creatures that are a combination of multiple things. For example, Griffins, Harpies, and Succubi all classify as hybrid enemies. Due to their more common appearances, enhanced oils are the way to go due to ease of crafting. Enhanced Hybrid Oils are easy to make, only needing a base Hybrid Oil, Bear Fat, Erynia Eye, Ginatia Petals, White Myrtle Petals, Hornwort, and Bryonia. Most of these items can be found in the open world. While it only grants a 25% damage increase for 40 attacks, it is more than enough to take down any Griffin that is giving you trouble. 6 Enhanced Hanged Man's Venom Unlike most Oils in The Witcher 3, Hanged Man's Venom can only be applied to your Steel weapon rather than your silver sword. It makes sense, however, as it grants a damage bonus against humanoid enemies. Not all humans are friendly in The Witcher. Sometimes, they can be more akin to monsters than the creatures that roam the land. To deal with them, Enhanced Hanged Man's Venom can be crafted to grant a 25% damage bonus against humans and nonhumans. Crafting it is simple, requiring This page lists the available oils in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.To increase the effectiveness of their blades against foes, a witcher can coat them with special oils, tailored to each damage a specific type of enemy.Gameplay[]To have access to any type of oil, the player must first craft said oil, which requires alchemy formulae that are spread across the world, either at a random diagram location, purchased from a merchant, or rewarded from a quest.Crafting oils is done through the alchemy menu while out of combat, but they can be applied to swords at any time. Similar to potions and bombs, once an oil is crafted, it will remain permanently in your inventory, though oils do not need to be replenished.Oils can be applied to swords from the inventory window, with Hanged Man's Venom reserved for steel swords and all other oils being exclusive to silver swords, except for beast oil, which can be used on both. Oils will increase the damage of the coated swords against targeted enemy types, this enhancement is multiplicative and is counted after abilities and other damage-increasing factors, though at base value, a basic oil will add +10% attack power, an enhanced +25%, and a superior oil +50%.Oil functionality can be expanded by investing ability points in the Oil Preparation segment of the Alchemy branch in the character skill tree.Oils do not last indefinitely and their effects can expire after landing enough hits. This can be tracked with a counter that will appear beneath the Toxicity meter if Geralt has an oil-coated sword drawn. The number represents the amount of hits remaining that will have the oil's effects, it decreases with every successful strike (even against enemies not targeted with the oil), if the number reaches zero, the oil will be rubbed off, and the effect will disappear. The slowly-depleting radial green line around the counter acts as a rough indicator of how many strikes you have left. The maxed out Fixative ability allows oil effects to last indefinitely (though this boon's value is questionable since the game allows you to re-apply oils mid-combat.)Traditionally,

Only one experiencing this bug but nobody else posted far as I know. when I googled only my own posts showed up relevant to what I searched for. Just thought I'd share the news in case some people don't know about it yet. If I remember my password, I'll make a post at the CD Project Red Witcher 3 forums. If there's anyone here at gamefaqs that would like to share my posts there you're more than welcome to.Long live Geralt of Rivia. King of the Witchers.BLACK_CAT_ANIME (Topic Creator)8 years ago#4Ok now I'm really confused here. It seems I've figured out why it doesn't show up on the list when I apply an oil. When I take my sword out it shows the 3 oils I can see on my sword plus the one I don't see applied to it when checking it at inventory. So I guess that means its permanent or it will go back to normal when it wears off. I now have 4 oils on my sword and I'm sure that's not intended. I have no idea what's going on and I give up. I'm through testing and trying to figure this out. Maybe CDPR will fix it or they won't. It's possible this problem only affects me. I really don't care anymore. Thanks for reading and I wish you all a happily ever after in blood and wine. Cheers.Long live Geralt of Rivia. King of the Witchers.BoardsThe Witcher 3: Wild HuntRan into a serious bug
